Cinnamon’s Bakery – a Sensory Experience in Estes Park Colorado

Cinnamon’s Bakery – a Sensory Experience in Estes Park Colorado

“Making people happy” is what owners Brian and Sarah say is the most important thing at Cinnamon’s Bakery, Estes Park, Colorado, USA. Sarah said, of her husband and co-owner, Brian, that “he has the hospitality gene.” I totally believe it about both of them, as they welcomed me to their bakery with open hearts on a recent weekend getaway.

Their Story.

Sarah, originally from California, and Brian, born in Colorado Springs, CO. Their lives crossed paths in 2005 in Atlanta, GA while waiting tables. Brian has a culinary degree from The Art Institute of Atlanta, followed by many years as a traditional chef in restaurants in Atlanta. Which culminated with renowned restaurant owner, Chef Kevin Rathbun, who mentored Brian. Brian claims that he is a savory chef, and a mighty good one according to Sara. But, he never deemed himself a baker. However, life has a vote, doesn’t it always?

Have you ever wanted to own your own bakery?

Brian and Sarah moved 1.5 years ago to Estes Park, CO with their two young children to be closer to family. Sarah’s parents put her and Brian in touch with the former owner of Cinnamon’s Bakery Estes Park who was thinking of selling. She was not willing to sell to any buyers, but only the one who would honor the legacy she built over three successful years since opening the shop. Fair enough, in come Brian and Sarah.

Continuing a Legacy of the Best Cinnamon Rolls in Colorado

Brian and Sarah came to an agreement with the former owner and purchased Cinnamon’s Bakery Estes Park. They did so with the understanding that they would never alter the recipe for the signature offering, The Classic Cinnamon Roll. The recipe was passed on from Helen McPherin (1922-2012) to the former owner, and now on to Brian to carry on the tradition. The cinnamon rolls are in high demand. They garner an enthusiastic loyal following from travelers and locals, alike. So, do not alter a recipe for success that has brand recognition and is a delicious product. Brian says, he is quite happy to carry on the tradition.

Brian and Sarah have expanded their offerings to include cast iron cheesecakes. They have many more ideas to expand the menu in the future, such as artisan breads and fresh pasta. Basically, Brian said, anything he can create with the ingredients they commonly have on hand, said like a true chef.

What do they attribute their continued success to at Cinnamon’s Bakery Estes Park?

Sarah’s job allows their family financial stability while they grow their family business. This has been especially important during the recent unexpected economic downturn. COVID-19 pandemic hit less than a year after they purchased the bakery. Estes Park is predominately a tourist town thanks to its proximity to the beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park. Unfortunately, tourism is greatly affected by the economy. Thankfully, they have an old fashion sense about their business and know that customer service and friendliness is #1. Followed closely by their consistently great product. These two things, plus the experience of walking into their bakery, smelling the awesome scents of cinnamon, vanilla, butter, bread baking yumminess will continue to bring customers!

What is the most rewarding part?

It is the customers, says Sarah, especially the repeat customers. It’s a reward for a job well done, both offering a great product and fantastic customer service. She loves it when people walk in to the shop and they immediately get a big, silly smile on their face as the warm aroma invades their senses, it’s instant gratification.

What is the most challenging part?

Ingredient shortages, especially during COVID-19. Brian said it has been hard sourcing the high quality ingredients he likes to use like real butter, high protein flour, natural vanilla, Red Star yeast, which in his experience is the best. There are no “secret” ingredients in his products, he just never compromises on quality, and always adds good salt, a savory to balance the sweetness. I believe it and you will too if you ever have a chance to try one of his delicious products.

Making Somebody’s Day So Much Sweeter,” Sarah enthused. She just loves (and believes in) what she and Brian are offering. It’s not just a cinnamon roll, it’s an experience. If you go, make sure you say hello to the bearded guy in the tiny, but professional and fully kitted kitchen (visible from the counter); that’s Brian, he always has a smile and a kind word.

Cinnamon’s Bakery is expanding their hours and as of Monday, June 15, 2020 will be open 7 days a week from 7:30 – 10:00 a.m. to feed the hungry masses. Brian is a hard worker and his dedication shows, he starts his day at 1:00 a.m. and made an incredible 500 cinnamon rolls the day that I visited. However, he sometimes sells out, so it is best to call them at least one day ahead at 970-480-1501 to preorder so you won’t miss your opportunity to taste their delicious offerings! You will not be sorry, just try them.

Product Review

I personally tasted the Classic Cinnamon Roll and the Gluten Sensitive Blueberry Muffin. Both were delicious. The cinnamon rolls are value sized, soft and fluffy, and mine had a generous helping of real cream cheese topping. The topping was sweet but did not overwhelm the roll, the cinnamon and fresh baked goodness still came through, utter perfection. Overall, value for money is exceptionally high at this small town bakery, you will get a great product at a great price, served up by Brian, Sarah and their friendly staff in Estes Park.

  • We were just in Estes Park for a vacation with our 3 grown children and grandchildren and a friend who lives nearby told us that we had to get the cinnamon rolls from Cinnamon’s. I’m so glad that we took her advice! The rolls were amazing! The day before we were to return home we tried the classic, the salted caramel and the one that had pecans on top of them…all were amazing! They are generously sized and miraculously we had 3 left on the day we were to fly home…there was no way that I was going to leave them behind so into my carry-on bag they went! I had one this morning in Florida for breakfast with a cup of coffee! Delicious! 😊

  • We spent Christmas at Estes this year and was able to go to the Cinnamon’s Bakery. OMG. I wish it was closer to me. I live in the Midwest. We will DEFINITELY be back on our next visit.

  • BEST CINNAMON ROLLS EVER! So good! They have a fruit roll – with a different flavor each day – to die for! AND now offer gluten-sensitive rolls (by pre-order only). In addition to the classic and fruit, they have pecan, salted caramel and raisin rolls. Perfect carb load before a hike!
